Scaling & Polishing

Gum disease is the inflammation of gum tissue which can progress to affect the bone surrounding and supporting your teeth. Scaling and polishing is the procedure carried out to prevent and treat gum disease.

Scaling is removal of plaque (thin slimy layer of bacteria), calculus or tartar (calcified plaque), debris and stains from crown and some root surfaces of teeth. Scaling can be done by ultrasonic instruments and hand instruments.

Polishing is removal of residual extrinsic stains and deposits by using rubber cup or bristle brush with prophylaxis paste.
